Over the next several weeks we will be featuring Top 10 lists from some of our DJs and volunteers here at SPACE 101.1 FM.

DJ9 (aka Janine C.) hosts a show called – TRANSCEND THIS TEMPORAL PLANE – every Wednesday evening from 9 to 10 pm. She has been with the station for a lengthy stint and brings forth music to shake you from your daily grind and into an introspective-state, at the mid-week, before bed, through beauty, humor, and raw emotion. Below are her Top 9 Favorite Songs and 1 Favorite Album of the Moment: December 2024 (In no particular order)

  • ML Buch High Speed Calm Air Tonight
A doom metal/country crossover intro transitions to shoegaze, melts and melts you. Danish musician and composer.
  • Pentagram First Daze Here
Vulnerable and lamenting in the garage. Out of Virginia in the late 70s.
  • The Barr Brothers Love Ain’t Enough
This is from 10 years ago. But it’s my current adult contemporary bop. Feels like a fresh reminder. That love is enough and also is not enough.
  • Face to Face Ordinary
This song returned to me after almost 30 years this Fall, every day in the shower, glancing at a bath product labeled “Ordinary.” Forgotten (almost) So-Cal punk. And I remembered how it struck me at 14. Find your own version of this past relic in 2025. Let it be your invitation to song scavenger hunt.
  • Mega Bog The Clown
A dare. A bold-faced stare coupled with a confession. A man thinks he’s found a manic pixie dream girl and she begins to see that a fully realized woman is actually a monster in his view. Thank you Erin Birgy. You used to live in Seattle and you were genuinely so lovely when we saw each other at shows.
  • Neil Merryweather Star Rider
Canadian bassist born in 1945. When you are listening to it, note that it is the greatest song in existence. There’s no time wasted on a long intro, just a wonderful flogging from climactic vocals and riffage. Let me live in this place!
  • Naima Bock Feed My Release
And let me sleep here. In a twilight half consciousness, so I can feel it as deep in my psyche as possible. Let it permeate my dream state so I can understand the most bittersweet universal truths.
  • JADE Angel of My Dream
This chorus could not be more saccharine and it’s like the most delicious medicine. JADE is easily summiting a mountain into the clouds on this track to meet actual angels.
  • Confidence Man SO WHAT
A supreme motivator. When you can’t bring yourself to get out of bed, to go to work, to start the project, finish the project, attend to your social obligation, etc. Hear this and show up with the give-no-f’s attitude.
  • Arooj Aftab, Vijay Iyer, Shahzhad Ismaily Love in Exile
An incantation for all the beauty and meaning you are seeking. Listen on headphones when you have uninterrupted time and space. Pakistani/Indian/American trio collaborated to bring forth this album in 2023.
