Happy New Year, from me, DJ 9, the host of Transcend This Temporal Plane! I admit I’m feeling pretty disillusioned and disgruntled this year, 14 days in. But music is a salve and yes, I think music can save us. My New Year’s Resolution is for me and everything and everyone else to be perfect from now on (like the Built to Spill record).
My Top Ten Tracks

Out the gate with some energyyyyy. Yes, I am alive! My sister theorizes that my late brother-in-law bought me a copy of Letter to Self on vinyl before he passed away suddenly in 2024, and therefore this LP is one of the greatest gifts (post-mortem) I’ve even received. From Sean, in the great beyond. It’s a lyrical slap in the face. Let it be a gift to you, too. - Dr. Dog– Dead Record Player:
Eventually every record will sing about the dead. And when it does it sounds terrific. - Hannah Mayree– The Shower Song:
Technology peaked with outdoor showers. Actually it peaked somewhere between 20-30 years ago. Hannah Mayree is the founder of the Black Banjo Reclamation Project. - Bad Religion– 21st Century Digital Boy:
See! Bad Religion said as much regarding tech back in 1990 😉 - Jay Som (ft. Jim Adkins)- Float:
Though from AZ, I was never a big fan of Jimmy Eat World. But I think I am going to be a huge Jay Som fan. Swooning over here. - Octo Octa– Let Me See You:
Glorious house producer from New Hampshire. Thanks to C89.5 for exposing me to this type of goodness. - Water From Your Eyes– Playing Classics:
WFYE hits every button for me. It doesn’t get any better than this. Peak weirdness + melodics. - DeBarge– I Like It:
Smooth, sexy, true, danceable when seated in your chair or on the floor. You can’t not scrunch up your face when faced with this track. - Jeffrey Lewis– Back When I Was 4:
I almost put this song on my Halloween playlist, but it’s just so much bigger than that. This song is sprawling, huge, and cinematic. It’s a coming of age song, and then an aging song, and a biopic, and a fantasy/tragedy, but really just reality. - Maruja– Saoirse:
Would you care for a brief encounter with the divine?
