About this program

Travel the globe beat by beat on World Beat Adventure. Although I focus on contemporary beat driven music, I’m not afraid to journey back in time for some classics, or break it up with moments of stillness and calm. I focus a lot on musical styles from Africa (Afrobeat, Soukous, Highlife, Benga, Desert Blues) and Latin America (Cumbia, Son, Salsa, Bachata, Chicha) but don’t be surprised to hear some Balkan Brass, Flamenco, Bhangra, Acapella, Funk, Reggae, and Psychedelia (Turkish, Thai), Downtempo, Jazz, etc. Hopefully you will find this program body moving, mind expanding, and soul soothing. About the DJ

My love of music (and radio) was nourished by access to great college, community, and public radio stations in Cleveland as I was growing up. It exposed me to ab amazing variety of sounds and ideas. I got my start as a radio DJ in college at WOSR, the student station at The Ohio State University (it was only available in some dorms via carrier current, and on local cable access). That was enough to get me hooked, and I have continued to do a weekly radio show (The Reggae Party) on various college, community, and public radio stations wherever I have lived since (CA, OR, ID, WA). In 2019 I branched out and started a second weekly show – World Beat Adventure – on my neighborhood low power FM station SPACE 101.1 FM. It’s a joy and privilege to be able to share my love of World Music with you. Aside from being a DJ on SPACE 101.1 FM I also help with training and am a member of the SPACE board of directors.
